In our life whenever we feel alone we have stretched ourselves in the\u00a0lap of \u201cNature\u201d to find solitude and bliss. In our times of crisis, this \u201cNature\u201d have come to our rescue. Yet we have failed to overcome our greed which is destroying both our inside & outside Nature. Hence we all know that we alone cannot survive without\u00a0protecting the environment, and the term Sustainable Development is not a theoretical one rather it has a deep continuous connection in terms to intelligent usage of resources around us for both our current and future generations.<\/p>\n

However, with the growing population numbers the demand for different commodity is increasing which is actually diminishing the conventional energy resources thus mainly leading to pollution and related hazards. This pollution has a direct impact on our weather and climate in different phases and over different regions in a varied manner. This impact is not limited to natural destruction but also our social ,economic and cultural activities are getting influenced with increased numbers of weather refugees around the world . Such increased number of weather refugees can be attributed to the most common term \u201cGlobal Warming\u201d which holds features involving the rising sea water level engulfing islands and deltas , melting of both polar and tropical glaciers leading to scarcity of freshwater and disrupting irrigational facilities, rise in number of tropical cyclones and its related hazards such as storm surge, torrential rain, erosion of sea coastlines, deforestation leading to high erosion level of mainly top fertile productive soil,\u00a0uncontrolled infrastructural growth leading to creation of heat island mainly around the urban hubs.<\/p>\n

The weather of this urban hubs comprising of many cities in India behave similarly in terms of both localized and general patterns . According to my assessment, I have evolved,\u00a0analysed\u00a0and interpreted a theory that these cities experience a unique weather pattern with an Invisible Bubble cover over them which I term as the \u201cPollution Bubble Theory\u201d . The worst implication of this Bubble cover is that it is mainly composed of pollutants and aerosols. This pollutants and aerosols are a product of multiple urban sources involving motor vehicles emissions, smoke and unfiltered emissions from Factory chimneys, high use of Air conditioners & related electrical\u00a0devices , high level of disposal of damaged electrical parts, discharge of dust and particulate matter from infrastructural developments as well as cutting down of trees and damaging natural ecosystem.<\/p>\n

In Kolkata over the last decade there have been a major remarkable shift in the local and the general weather pattern. Such a change is highly visible with higher temperature during summer, long phases of zero rainfall days, even rain in almost every significant month during a calendar year, increased frequency of Lightning strikes, landfall of cyclonic storms around the region, lack of relief thunderstorms or\u00a0kalbaisakhi\u00a0during summer.<\/p>\n

Out of the above stated changed weather events, mainly the changed status of\u00a0kalbaisakhi\u00a0or the\u00a0norwesters\u00a0is highly noticeable as this are storms that mainly bring relief to the parched and dry lands over the city during the intense summer months of March to May. These storms have gradually decreased in number over the city mainly in the last decade, however their occurrences\u00a0have still not shifted significantly outside the city limits. The storm that mostly forms over the\u00a0Chota\u00a0Nagpur Plateau around the noon time starts traversing from the northwestern side of Kolkata during evening time . However after a prolonged dry period\u00a0over the city there is a quantifiable amount of dust, high levels of pollution and significant presence of\u00a0Aerosols in the air which combined to form an invisible Pollution Bubble shield mainly around the city\u2019s northwestern front adjoining the northern\u00a0suburbs and parts of Howrah-Hooghly border. In this context ,It is very important to state that due to expansion of the city limits over the past two decades there has been a considerable infrastructural development over city\u2019s suburbs adjoining the districts of North 24\u00a0Parganas, Hooghly and Howrah , that lies generally on the northwestern frontiers of the city. Under the context of this development there has been a significant damage to the green belt of the area which has been a major source of backup moisture to the atmosphere with reduced levels of trans-evaporation. This low rate of trans evaporation and at the same time increased rate of pollution levels is blocking the storm (kalbaisakhi) path thus forming an invisible Pollution Bubble Shield.<\/p>\n

The Aerosol in the air generates intense soot level which evaporates the moisture at higher levels of the atmosphere just below the clouds leaving no rainfall for the area below however at the same time the clouds covers the sky as the\u00a0sulphate\u00a0in the atmosphere keep drawing the moisture from the Bay of Bengal.<\/p>\n

So during the initial or at the beginning of a series of thunderstorm phase, the first and even at times the second successive storm, people in the city experience similar feature with mostly cloud cover, gusty low speed winds and mostly no or very little isolated rain as the Pollution Bubble blocks and weakens the strong Thunderstorm system . However at the same time the Pollution Bubble also gets weaken with gradual increase in the level of the moisture in the atmosphere. This gradual increase in the level of moisture and weakening of the Pollution Bubble over the city helps to pave way for upcoming storms to strike the City with full force and fury . In short, in my assessment and evolution of Bubble\u00a0Theory, I have noticed that this storms are frequent after the pollution Bubble are breached and even when the pollution level was low. This lockdown period when pollution levels are low reflected that storms maintained their paths with full intensity to\u00a0strike the city frequently. Now again with the changing scenario post lockdown period, similar conditions are reviving with this year 2022 experiencing an almost rainless April month over the city as initially the number of thunderstorm formation was low over the South Bengal region due to unfavorable weather parameters and those formed eluded or diffused under the effect of this Bubble theory due to long intermittent dry phases which boosted the pollution level to rise in and around the city.<\/p>\n

With every passing hour Weather is becoming unpredictable mainly due to improper act of humans .Therefore, we humans may develop and advance by leaps and bounds to achieve the unthinkable but Nature will always be ahead of us and it\u2019s high time that we understand that\u00a0destroying Nature for fulfilling our demands is simply cutting the branch of a tree in which we are actually sitting.
